About us

The Mesoamerican Biological Corridor represents a multi-national initiative that is responsible for the conservation and protection of ecological connectivity. As the name “Mesoamerican Biological Corridor” already reveals, the effort operates and works across the Central American isthmus. Eight countries, that is Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Panama, were involved, through the Central American Commission for Environment and Development, to maintain and protect the landscape and also the entire conservation environment. This results in the maintenance of the process of evolution and migration that has been formed since the ecological development of the Central American isthmus and the union of the two continents.

In the background, the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor intervenes in favor of very important issues such as biodiversity, communication, environmental economics, policies and also legislation throughout Central America. Starting from the fact that biodiversity and the sustainability of the natural resources of many regions in Central America are threatened, the eight countries of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor, Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Panama, fight for the conservation and protection of ecological connectivity. In this context,     it can be added that natural resources are threatened and consequently endangered by various factors such as the loss of their natural habitat, the overexploitation of resources and poverty.
