PodChatLive and the Use of Shock Wave Therapy

PodChatLive is a once weekly live show for the continuing education of Podiatrists and also others which might be interested. The stream goes out live on Facebook and after that is later edited and uploaded to YouTube. Every live show features a different person or selection of guests to go over a different topic each time. Queries are responded to live by the hosts and guests through the live episode on Facebook. There is also a PodCast recording of every single show found on iTunes and also Spotify and the other common podcast resources. They have gained a substantial following that keeps growing. PodChatLive is seen as one way in which podiatrists are able to get free professional development hours. An earlier episode of this how dealt with the issue of the use of shock wave therapy to treat foot problems.

In that episode the guest was the consultant Physiotherapist  and researcher  Dylan Morrissey. The talked about the evidence base for shockwave therapy, and just how robust the methodology often employed within such research which is not often of a high standard. They also talked about foot and ankle pathologies that shockwave is indicated for and whether there are any key contraindications or risks associated with it’s the use shock wave therapy. Dr Dylan Morrissey has many years of experience working in sports and exercise medicine. He completed his MSc at University College London in 1998 and a PhD in 2005 at the King’s College in London. He is now a physiotherapist and clinical reader in sports and musculoskeletal physiotherapy at Bart’s and the London National Health Service trust and at the BL School of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. He provides clinical leadership to the intercalated BSc and MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the University. Dylan has gained more than £5m in research funding, with a third as lead applicant, and has authored over 60 peer-reviewed full papers.
